Simple Present

                                                             PRESENTE SIMPLE:

Para conjugar el presente simple usamos el infinitivo para los sujetos “I”, “you”, “we” y “they” y para las terceras personas “he”, “she” y “it”, añadimos un “-s” al final del verbo.

Sujeto	Conjugación
I, you, we, they	talk, eat, learn, do, go…
he, she, it	talks, eats, learns, does, goes…

 Se utiliza para hablar de generalidades o hechos científicos.

       Examples:

                He does not [doesn’t] eat vegetables.

                She works in a hospital. 

                Elephants live in Africa. 

                Bogota is in Colombia. 

                Do children like animals? 

                Adults do not [don’t] know everything. 

               Se usa para eventos programados en el futuro próximo.

      Examples:

                The train leaves at 10:00. 

                The party is tonight. 

                Does the festival start tomorrow?

                The plane does not [doesn’t] arrive today.

   Se usa para instrucciones (el imperativo).

       Examples:

                Open the window.

                Eat the vegetables. 

                Don’t cry. 

                Do your homework.

FORM AFFIRMATIVE:

Sujeto + verbo.

Examples:

                I talk. 

                He eats. 

                They learn. 

FORM NEGATIVE:

Sujeto + verbo auxiliar (to do) + auxiliar negativo (“not”) + verbo.

Examples:

                I do not [don’t] talk. 

                He does not [doesn’t] eat. 

                They do not [don’t] learn.

Nota: En frases negativas, el verbo auxiliar (“to do”) cambia y el verbo principal va en el infinitivo.

FORM INTERROGATIVE:

Verbo auxiliar (to do) + sujeto + verbo principal?

 Examples:     
                Do you talk? 

                Does he eat? 

                Do they learn? 

Nota: Como en frases negativas, en frases interrogativas el verbo auxiliar (“to do”) cambia y el verbo principal va en el infinitivo.

                                            Signal Words:

Always, usually, often, sometimes, hardly ever, never, generally, occasionally, once in a while, every now and then, rarely. Every day, every week, every month, every year, every other day, every weekend, every sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday On sundays, mondays, tuesday, wednesdays, thursday, fridays, saturdays On weekends, once/two times/three times a day, a week, a month, a year.
